I've been meaning to catch The Rita Collective for awhile and the weather gods (barely) and my schedule finally aligned.
Anyone who knows me knows I like music coming from many influences. Rita Collective revels in that. Starting with a transcription of a Rage Against The Machine ditty, followed by a song based on one by a Tunisian oud player by Tunisian oud master, Anouar Brahem (the title of which led to the band's name) and then one by Bela Fleck, the group lives up to the eclecticism that drew me in the first place. It was more eclectic as the night progressed….
Tonight they were joined in the second set by Mark Collins on trumpet. Collins is from White Plains and currently teaches at SUNY Geneseo.
This was their first night at Lovin Cup. Good venue for them. Check them out ….
